Part-Time Legal Consultant

We are looking to add to the group of experienced, qualified freelance lawyers who work with us to support our ever increasing and diverse workload in the key areas below. If you are a highly-skilled and self-driven lawyer with top tier technical experience in these area then we are keen to hear from you. 

Corporate – corporate projects, corporate transactions, real estate, digital economy  

Disputes – general commercial litigation, banking & finance litigation & investigations, arbitration 

Finance –general banking, financial services regulatory, restructuring and special situations, securities & derivatives 

You can expect to be involved in tasks such as; 

  • Drafting of legal documents and agreements;
  • Review of legal documents and agreements
  • Contributing to department know-how;
  • Advising clients and preparing formal legal opinions;
  • Leading negotiations with counter parts;

Essential skills & experience 

  • Post qualification experience from a leading law firm, or corporate business
  • A team-player who can work effectively with colleagues at all levels
  • Client facing experience and the ability to understand and respond effectively to client needs
  • A commercial approach

Key requirements

  • A minimum of four years’ post-qualification experience at a top tier law firm in this field
  • Strong technical prime brokerage knowledge and experience
  • Experience of working in an in-house legal team at leading financial services institutions/corporates preferred (directly or as a secondee)
  • Excellent academic credentials
  • Self-starter with a commitment to building a career as a consultant
  • Client service-focused, with exemplary client service ethic and commitment

Part-Time Legal Assistant

The idea candidate should have experience working in law firms and you need to be looking for a challenging, diverse new role.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Perform legal support functions, including formatting, entering edits and producing legal documents - e.g., pleadings, advice memos and correspondence - to a high standard and sometimes under time pressure to meet filing deadlines.
  • Prepare and proof-read documents and correspondence from handwritten material, rough copy or digital dictation. When appropriate, edit documents for proper phrasing and grammar to improve the flow of the message without altering the meaning. May reformat, spell check and finalise lawyer work product as appropriate.
  • Effectively and efficiently make appointments, coordinate dates, times and locations (sometimes across several time zones) for meetings and telephone conference calls.
  • Extensive diary management and coordination to accommodate changes in circumstances and ensure all appropriate individuals are informed of changes.
  • Participate in administrative support for hearings, including the preparation of bundles, logistics, and collation of other hearing materials.
  • Prepare partner expenses for reimbursement.
  • Provide assistance with conflict cases in other jurisdictions as necessary which may require some travel.
  • Identify and research legal issues.
  • Perform other such duties that may be assigned.

Key requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in legal assistance or pre-law.
  • Completion of any bachelor’s degree and one of the following: a one or two-year legal assistance program, two years of legal research analysis work experience, or Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) designation.
  • Advanced MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) skills.
  • Excellent typing speed (60 wpm).
  • Excellent knowledge of formatting large documents and pleadings.
  • Excellent knowledge of legal practices.
  • High level accuracy and attention to detail.
